Happy New Year! The Tek Team wishes everyone a very happy and successful 2016. Long gone are the days of holiday cheer and Christmas decorations.
Although, the spirit of celebration only grows because this week marks the start of the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, also known as “CES”.
The Consumer Electronics Show is a multiday, international show in which businesses and tech enthusiasts across the world gather to announce and showcase their latest tech products and to share the many breakthroughs in technology they have made. This is essentially for tech companies’ chance to show off how mind-blowing and awesome tech can be!
CES 2015 Recap
CES 2015 did showcase some really exciting and innovative products. With over 170,000 attendees and 3,600 companies featured, CES 2015 was a record-breaking event. Some of the top products unveiled included wearable tech, like smartwatches, both for fitness and casual use. BMW even showcased a smartwatch that features a function that makes a user’s car to park itself.
Last year saw upgrades to Nest, which is a smart thermostat, and the LG G Flex 2, which is a smartphone with a curved screen. CES 2015 also featured other gadgets like affordable drones, 3-D printers, the Mercedes-Benz F 015 concept model, and Intel’s RealSense Technology. This last piece of tech has the power to recognize hand gestures and allows users to navigate their PC without have to touch it.
As thrilling as last CES 2015 was, CES 2016 will be even more promising with updates and releases on new wearable tech, virtual reality upgrades, autonomous cars, and so much more!
Without further ado, here is a list of top tech to look out for this week at CES:
Advancements for the Automobile
The latest automobile technology changes that have been presented at CES have taken quite a turn, literally. Before, automotive manufacturers would create cars and tech to allow more fuel efficient and faster cars. While, the reality is that automotive manufacturers are actually doing quite the opposite.
CES 2016 will feature the latest advancements for their self-driving car. Several automotive manufacturers will be present this year including, Ford, BMW, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and many others.
Additionally, there has been speculation about new smartphone technology being incorporated into cars’ infotainment systems. EE Times found out that other car safety technology will include anti-theft car tech, collision-avoidance systems, and a more advanced driver assistance system to prevent further accidents.
There is speculation that this year’s wearable tech will not feature anything ground-breaking. Instead, there will be advancements made to most wearables. There is a push for most gadgets, like the Fitbit and smartwatches, to gain a classier look to them. By incorporating designer brand names into the gadgets’ appearance it should have an appeal to a fashionable audience.
There will be upgraded pieces of fitness apparel and gadgets to provide better feedback and analytics for a better workout. Hopefully, the new fitness apparel options will shy away from wearable gadgets to pieces of clothing like socks, sweatshirts, or even armbands.
Virtual Reality Breakthrough
CES 2016 has some big players who are releasing their virtual reality headsets. According to Yahoo! Tech, some of these big players include Facebook’s Oculus, HTC’s headset, Valve’s Vive, as well as Sony’s PlayStation VR. It is speculated that the virtual reality exhibits will be one of the biggest hits for this year’s CES. CBS News reported in addition to the big players previously mentioned, that there will be over 40 humbler exhibitors featuring their virtual reality tech.
But wait, there’s more! Time also reported that this year’s showcase will be featuring augmented reality, which is a first for CES!
There will be some exciting new products released by LG, Huawei, Qualcomm, Samsung, Nvidia, and Intel, just to name a few. Digital Trends noted that Qualcomm, Nvidia, and Intel will all be present as they are releasing some sort of new tech. Qualcomm will be discussing their new Snapdragon 820 chip for smartphones. While Nvidia will be showcasing their new processor that they have created.
According to BGR, LG has teased their new 18-inch display which can be rolled up like a newspaper. That itself is mind-blowing. Imagine you are using a tablet without the extra added weight and don’t need to purchase additional accessories like a keyboard for your tablet. If you are on the go, you can just roll up the screen and off you go.
