3-2-1-Blast-off! Let us take a blast from the past to a brief moment of time and history presented by today’s Google Doodles. May 26, 2015 marks the 64th birthday for Sally Ride, the first American woman to travel to space on June 18th, 1983.

Google is commemorating Sally Ride with several Google Doodles today for her astonishing achievement of being the first woman to enter outer space. Sally Ride was also known for her impact on society by encouraging both adults and children to pursue their dreams of being an astronaut, scientist, or engineer. It is also because of Sally that today’s female scientists and engineers have been able to push the envelope in careers that are predominantly occupied by men.

Sally had a passion for science, education, and motivating people to follow their dreams by reaching for the stars. Google hopes that the commemoration of Sally Ride will inspire people around the world to continue to stay motivated and pursue their passions, much like what Sally did.
