There is a new link in the chain of Google’s armor as it proves, again, that it is still the mighty champion of small businesses. Even though members of the general public remain quietly aware of the quaint corner store, big brands often take over the forefront of our minds. When this happens, smaller companies are often left in the dust that’s driven up by the mad stampedes for the nearest Target and Walmart.
Why is that? Well, the fact is, larger companies often have much stronger online presences than smaller ones… but not anymore! Google—and, incidentally, eGumball, Inc.—have been working diligently to change that.
A Local Business Initiative with Far-Reaching Goals
This past Wednesday on March 25th, 2015, Google officially initiated their new program called “Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map.” The initiative works to buffer the online presence of local businesses across the country through accurate and complete Google My Business (GMB) listings. Work on the program began in 2011 and it has since introduced around 327,000 businesses to GMB.
What Can Google Do For Your Business?
The primary goal of this initiative is to increase exposure. Google My Business is a Google application, which means businesses who sign up are instantly connected to potential clients on Google Search, Google Maps, and Google+.

That is a huge advantage for any entrepreneur, but especially for small business owners who have never created online content. Imagine going from trusting your business’ success solely on random foot traffic to being inundated with visitors finding you through Google Maps. This happened to Marieshia Hicks of Dependable Care Health Service, and it can happen to you.
As a local business marketing company that serves small businesses throughout the United States, eGumball appreciates Google’s extensive efforts to highlight local businesses on the map.
Local businesses are paramount to our country’s economy and while that is not readily apparent to those of us who do all of our shopping with big name companies—we implore you to think again.
